Mens Watch — How do I properly wind this Vostok watch?

I just bought a vintage Vostok Komandorskii watch. It needs to be wound periodically, but I’m unsure of how to do it and can’t find any manuals or user info online. I’d like to get some good advise to avoid fumbling with it and taking the chance of messing it up. Does anyone have a similiar watch they can tell me about or know of any sites with information? Thanks.

Hi there, I’ve got a few Vostoks and they are superb watches. The crown of the winder is actually screwed down to make it water tight. You need to unscrew the crown (anti-clockwise) until it comes loose. Then you will see the shaft that is connected to the spring (don’t worry, it won’t come off!) After that, you can wind the watch normally – about 16 winds should get the spring fully wound – and it will run for about a day and a half before it needs to be re-wound. Once you’ve finished winding the spring, just screw the crown back on to the thread and you’re ready to go.

There are lots of sites you can look at: smirs.com, russarmy.com, solod.com, russia4u.co.uk and rusplus.com are all very good (the latter has plenty of information).

I hope that this helps.
